JTR Natural Diamond Identification Reports was developed to provide the highest possible resolution and reliability in the analysis of bare diamonds. Thanks to the transparency of the analysis process and standards, it is an indispensable tool in the international diamond trade without any question marks in mind.

JTR Natural Diamond Identification Reports are used for the highest possible precision analysis of diamonds 0.05ct and above.

AUTHENTICITY OF DIAMOND

The authenticity of loose diamonds has become an important topic after lab-grown diamonds become commercially available, as well as modern treatment techniques. Therefore JTR Research and Development team is putting a significant amount of time and afford to ensure all JTR reports represent the utmost reliability

JTR Research continues to seek updates on the diamond growth processes as well as treatment processes. Whenever a new method is detected in a diamond, all data belonging to the diamond together with diamond scanned images under various light conditions are stored in JTR cloud-based operating system.

The purpose of this chain of actions to collect these data is to create automated processes for the detection of authenticity in the JTR cloud-based operating system
  • The data set includes Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometric (FTIR)data
  • Ultraviolet-Visible light spectrometric data
  • Photoluminescence spectrometric data Under various laser wavelengths
  • Growth structure visual images of diamonds Under Far-UV excitation
  • Diamond images with the highest magnification possible Under DB65, UV-A excitation

CARAT

JTR state the mass of a diamond in carat (ct) with two decimal places as specified in the international standards organization (ISO) 24016 standards and the International Diamond Council (IDC) rule book.

JTR uses highly sensitive micro-balances to measure the mass of a diamond. These micro-balances are able to measure the carat weight with six decimal places. These extremely price measurements are very important due to the fact that one decimal point can change the value of a diamond substantially.

Repeatability of these extremely price measurements requires some additional precautions.
  • Validation tests for Micro-Balances are applied every four hours.
  • Micro-Balance’s working under humidity and vibration controlled environment
  • All micro balances get calibrated every six months.
Carat weight is also cross-checked with a theoretical calculation based on proportions of diamonds.

COLOUR

JTR applies three different techniques to identify the colour.
  • The visual method with master stone-based inspection, sample diamonds are compared with reference diamonds which are specially selected. Those reference stones comply with international standards. For compliance purposes, JTR applies a procedure for reference stone selection. Reference stone selection guide can be found in our library.
  • JTR Colour grading results occur from three subgrades; these subgrades are high, mid and low ranges of each colour grade. Subgrades help diamond traders to understand the exact colour grading of a diamond, helping them with the precise valuation of diamonds.
  • JTR also keeps the hue of the diamonds. It is important to understand that the diamonds may have different hues other than yellow (cape series), other hues might be blue, grey, pink, green and so on. As different hues effects the value of a diamond it is vital to know the hue of a diamond.

JTR applies image processing algorithms to detect the colour subgrades. JTR Research has developed a diamond colour acquisition device to have detailed answers for high-precision colour grading challenges. JTR uses multiple colour spaces to describe a diamond’s colour as close as possible to the human eye. Color space conversion results are compared with reference stones results, in the light of statistical comparison of results a precise grading for the colour of diamonds has been made possible.

The last technique is used mainly for quality purposes. The digital image of the sample diamond is compared with digital images of reference diamonds. This method helps researchers to improve the colour grading algorithms in comparison with visual and image processing-based analysis.

FLUORESCENCE

JTR classifies the fluorescence of diamonds in the range of none to strong as specified in the international standards organization (ISO) 24016 standards and the International Diamond Council (IDC) rule book.

Fluorescence in diamonds happens because an electron changes its energy state due to a high-energy beam and relaxes back to its original state by emitting light. This phenomenon is very important for gemmologist to determine the authenticity of diamonds as well as for traders to define the value of diamonds.

JTR keeps a record of each diamond’s fluorescence colour and the intensity of fluorescence. JTR fluorescence grading is based on image processing algorithms and visual inspections.

CLARITY

JTR classifies the clarity of diamonds in the range of Loupe Clean (LC) to Pique three (P3) as specified in the international standards organization (ISO) 24016 standards and the International Diamond Council (IDC) rule book.

Clarity is the absence of internal characteristics and external characteristics in diamonds. When diamonds are examined for clarity grade five different elements are taken into consideration these are; size, nature, number, position, brightness/contrast, and reflections. JTR Researchers are putting a significant amount of time and resources to define these five elements automatically. The researcher's purpose is to develop an algorithm to define the clarity grading based on statistical data.

JTR has sets of reference stones for diamond experts to compare with sample diamonds; thanks to the development of the cloud-based operating system JTR is gathering a digital clarity reference stone library. This reference stones library will allow diamond experts to grade more consistently and more precisely. Reference stones digital library is expanding rapidly and will continue to grow

CUT

JTR classifies the cut grade of diamonds in the range of Excellent to Poor as specified in the international standards organization (ISO) 24016 standards and the International Diamond Council (IDC) rule book.

Cut grade has three criterias; Proportions, Symmetry and Polish.

Cut grade is one of the most important elements of diamond grading. Proportions of diamonds define the brilliance and fire of a diamond. Therefore better proportion grade means a better visual of a diamond.

As diamonds represent perfection, the cutting processes of diamonds have to reflect high precision. Symmetry is one of the elements for this precision, it is expected that facets of diamonds and general attributes shall be symmetrical to each other. For further details regarding symmetry parameters please visit our library.

Polish grade covers the external characteristics of diamonds. External characteristics mainly occur during the manufacturing process of diamonds. These characteristics can be polishing lines, burn marks and many others. The absence of external characteristics would result in a better polish grade.
