JTR Academy trains jewellers, appraisers, retail sales teams and laboratory graders to assess diamonds and coloured stones with confidence. Our programmes move from the fundamentals of the 4Cs — carat, colour, clarity and cut — through to advanced lab-grown and synthetic diamond detection, so you can grade, buy and sell with the same rigour used inside an accredited laboratory.
Every diamond course begins with the international grading language: how a stone’s carat weight, colour grade, clarity characteristics and cut proportions combine to determine quality and value. You practise on real diamonds under laboratory lighting, learn to read a grading report, and understand how small differences in grade translate into large differences in price on the counter.
Natural, lab-grown (HPHT and CVD) and simulant stones increasingly look identical to the naked eye. Our detection training pairs gemological theory with hands-on screening on REVEAL instruments — the same technology used in the JTR laboratory — so you can separate natural from synthetic diamonds quickly and reliably, and know when a stone needs referral for full analysis.
Courses are taught by working gemologists and instrument engineers in small cohorts, online, in person and hybrid. On completion you receive a JTR Academy certificate recognised across the trade — a credential that supports roles in diamond grading, jewellery valuation, retail and quality control.
